5 Activity Ideas for World Book Day

This week we will be celebrating world book day which is on the 7th of March and I usually like to plan this in advance, sometimes it even spreads through out the week so I thought it would be nice to share our activity ideas too for this special day.

1. Create a space for the children to read and explore a range of books selected for that day/week. When creating this space it is worth considering the space should be a quiet haven that is comfortable and large enough for you to join them if invited. We wrote about this last year when creating our book corner

2. Plan a creative activity to link in with one of the books you have selected. We usually have a special basket filled with 5 books to focus on each week. This may fit in with the children's current interest or a topic you are covering. The children also have free access to the book case however our's is kept up stairs in the hallway. The activity  could be any thing from painting a picture, Making a story sack together or junk modelling a character from the book. Last year we made a paper plate rainbow fish

3. A trip to the local library is a great idea for getting extra books for the week and normally library's will have special activities planned for World Book Day so its worth seeing what they have going on.

4.Dressing up as your favourite character and plan a role play idea to match the theme such as making a woodland corner if you are exploring The Gruffalo or a park for Percy the Park Keeper.

5. Plan some simple baking ideas. Last year we enjoyed making a beautiful Peach Crumble when we were reading our way through the Roald Dahl collection. We also made a couple of other treats which you can grab the recipes for off the post.

We would love to hear about your idea's for World Book Day feel free to link them below in the comments. We plan to share these on the FaceBook page and Twitter on Thursday.
