High-Contrast Toys to Aid Your Baby's Visual Development

It is well known that babies are stimulated by patterns and high contrasting colour's such as red, white and black up until they are 6 months old. When Tinnie was small I wanted to make the children's play space as much his as it would be for the older two.  High-contrasting toy's and nursery decor can help to stimulate babies brain development so I picked a selection which would help to decorate the room at his eye level and to add to his toy box. Here is a selection of some of the bits I picked:

Manhattan Wimmer mini play mat from Amazon

I brought a selection of black and white books which were either fabric or hard board. Book stores can hold a great collection.

Manhattan Wimmer shapes from Amazon.

Lamaze have a variety of high contrast coloured toys, they are also great for exploring texture and sound.

We also printed some black and white images which I added at a low level around the play spaces and next to his changing unit. I noticed Tinnie was more drawn to the pictures then the toys around the room but I think this is because they stand out a lot more. These picture's we found by searching high contrast images on a search engine, then printing and  laminating them. It may use quite a lot of your ink but I'm used to going through ink cartridges quickly and it still cheaper and a quicker result then buying them. As a childminder I tend to look for a cartridge discount so it doesn't affect my bank balance so much. There is so much out there you can do with printer ink, I plan to purchase some special fabric transfer paper and make our own family photo fabric books if I can get round to it before Tinnie is 5 :0) .
