Baby Play: Pasta and Containers

Rummaged through your kitchen cupboard and invite your little ones to explore a fun activity with pasta, pots and pans. A great opportunity for children to fill, pour, explore sounds and even share with very little mess.

This week I have been rearranging our shelving ( something I seem to be doing all the time at the moment). the plan was to have boxes filled with ready to grab sensory activities for the children to enjoy.  One that I wanted to include was pasta. I love these bows as they are already in a range of colours without me having to colour them my self. Having jar, tubs, or boxes filled with sensory materials can be great for things to keep little ones busy during the witching hour but must still be supervised if the kiddies are little.

Tinnie and L loved this activity and it was a great opportunity for them to strengthen their palmer grasp and develop their hand eye coordination. I introduced the egg boxes and filled one with a couple of pieces of pasta as a suggestion of what they could use them for. Tinnie then continued to fill the box with pasta before emptying it out again in to the tin.

It wasn't long before the pasta was over the mat and floor. The babies continued playing with it moving it across the mat using the spoons. They had a fantastic time exploring the pasta's texture and shape. Giving the children a mixture of card and tin containers allowed the babies to also explore the sounds the could make when dropping the pasta.
