How to make a Bottle Rocket

This week is world space week and space is a very popular topic in our house with Little Man at the moment. I thought I would show you this craft project which we did last week. We try to save some junk modelling resources for projects like this so we usually have a few boxes, bottles, jars and lids kept in the garage. Its always a handy idea for a rainy day.

Resources:  Plastic bottle, poster paint, pva glue, 1 sheet of card, cellotape, paper shapes (optional), collaging materials (optional)

1. We added a squeeze of red paint glue to the inside of the bottle. You could choose any colour.

2. Little man shook the bottle and with a little help from mummy the mixture covered the inside of the bottle ready to set.

3. Next Little man stuck a selection of coloured shapes to the outside of the bottle to make a door and many windows.

4. Little man then decorated the sides of the rocket and we cello-taped them on.

We also had the idea of adding tissue paper out of the bottom for boosters but Little man didn't want to add them.

We used this as a great way to discuss colours and shapes. After wards the rocket made a great home made toys. Little man enjoyed making it blast off the top of his toy garage.

  1. That is a great idea and so simple when you think about it. Good way to reuse a bottle.
    Thanks for sharing.
