Pine Cone Bats

In preparation for this years Halloween we have started to make our decorations. Earlier in the week the children collected pine cones on the way home from school to make with. When we got them home I baked them in the oven  for 20 at 200 degrees to get rid of any nasty bugs, alternatively you can wash them. I wanted to keep the idea simple as the children would be making a few each to decorate above the back door.

Resources: Pine cones, PVA glue, Googley eyes, string and black paper.

I precut out the wings for each of the bats, if you have older children they could draw and cut them out themselves to give the bats more character.

1. Cover the edge of the wing you will be sticking into the pine cone with PVA glue on both sides.

2. Slot the wings into place and lay the cone on its side.

3. Glue on the googley eye with PVA glue and allow to dry.

Once dry we hung the bats from an old banner above the window.
