Homemade Snowflake Lanterns

 

 After all the excitement of Halloween our house begins to look very bare. There no more cobwebs hanging at the windows, no spiders hanging from the ceiling and the pumpkin centre piece has been binned that used to shine on the dinning table. Each year I keep a few jars a side rather than recycling them and invite the children to decorate them to use as lanterns.

 

 

 

Last year the children used paint and glue to make these lanterns. The children enjoyed painting Christmas objects on the sides and when the candles were lit they looked beautiful.

 

 

This year I thought we would try something different. Here is what you will need:

• Glass jars or tumbler glasses
• Paper or tracing paper
• PVA glue watered down with a little water
• Paint brush
• Glitter
• Tea light candles

 



Step 1- Cut out enough snowflakes to allow one for each jar. They will need to be small so it may help to measure your circle against the jar before cutting out your snowflakes.

 

Step 2- Apply glue to the glass jar where you would like to add the snow flake. Stick on the snowflake and use the paint brush to make sure it is completely stuck down.

 

Step 3- Cover the rest of the jar with glue and sprinkle with glitter. Once dry apply two coats of the glue mixture to make sure the glitter will not fall off.

Here are the finished jars. Each one turned out  completely different which I love. They decorate the window seal beautifully.
