Baby Play :Ball Fun

As a Childminder it pays to be well organised and have toys which are easy to put out and suit a wide range of ages to hand. When looking after babies under a year this can be a little more difficult older children may not won't their tower knocked down or their farm animals all placed in a box. Plastic balls which can be rolled rather than thrown around the room can help to keep every one busy if your getting tea ready or you want to sit and involve every one in a game.

We were recently sent a tuff spot and activity mat by TTS Group to review and before testing out the small world mat I could not resist letting Tinnie explore the tray. Even with nothing in the tray Tinnie would climb in and then back out of the tray again and again then occasionally taking a toy into the middle before sitting down and examining it.

I had been keeping hold of bag of balls we were given a while back to place in a ball pool for Tinnie however having the tray was a good opportunity to try them out. As soon as they were poured into the tray Tinnie climbed straight in and swiped his hands from side to side. The balls flew out of the tray which seemed to give him the idea of throwing the balls. When he got bored of throwing them out I started to gently throw them back in landing them at his legs.

As Tinnie moved on out of the tray I showed him how the balls would roll fast across the room and encouraged him to roll them back when he had chased after them. Tinnie returned to the tray and the balls through out the day.

For the older children it would be nice to use some card or plastic pipe to use as ramps to roll the balls down and to discuss how to make them roll faster or slower.
