Sensory Tray: Princess Crazy Soap

As a child I have a memory of playing with some thing called 'crazy soap', I think it had many names. I remember playing with it int he bath while my mum would wash my hair and it made bath time a lot of fun. Now I use crazy soap to create a great sensory tray activity.

Resources needed:
  • Crazy soap in a spray can
  • Petals
  • Sensory tray/ trug/ tuff spot
  • set it up in an area which can get messy or use a mat

I filled a plastic trug with the crazy soap and the children helped by collecting up the flowers from around the garden which we sprinkled on top of the crazy soap. The children rolled up their sleeves but if your planning on doing this on a large scale I would just make sure you have a change of clothes near by.

The children got stuck in by sinking their hands straight into the soap. They then push each of the petals through to hide them in the fluff.

It wasn't long before the crazy soap was up and out of the trug. The children squeezed it in between their fingers and hands and rubbed it in up their arms. I then had the idea that as they were covered any way maybe we should use the lid to the sand tray to enlarge the place space. It's amazing how changing the size of your play space can completely change an activity.

The children loved to feel the crazy soap oozing in between their toes and rubbed it up their legs like sun tan lotion. Little man would pick up piles and clap his hands to watch what happened while O was sitting on the floor covering her self from head to toe.

Little man then went on to draw swirls in the crazy soap which had been rubbed into the mat with their feet and P wrote words around her feet.

Development Matters Framework:
Communication and Language- Listens and responds to ideas expressed by others in
conversation or discussion.
Personal, social and emotional development-
Keeps play going by responding to what others are saying or
doing.
Literacy- Gives meaning to marks they make as they draw, write and paint. Sometimes gives meaning to marks as they draw and paint.
