Trick Or Treacle with Lyle's Black Treacle

My two were bursting with excitement when we received some special edition Lyle's Black Treacle so delivered to our door. P loves Halloween each year when it comes around she makes the most of craft lots of goulish decorations for around our home. The Trick or Treacle packaging was an instant invite to P to get out our cooking apron !!

I love the idea of making some of these short bread fingers but P had other plans, she wanted to make flapjack as it would make a great treat to hand out at Halloween because she thought it would look like zombie brains.

Here is the recipe we used, It was the same as our usual recipe but we added treacle in stead of golden syrup.
  • 3oz Butter
  • 2oz moist sugar
  • 4oz black treacle
  • 0.5lb rolled oats
1. Pour the sugar, butter and treacle into a pan and heat until the sugar has dissolved.
2. Once this is done stir in the oats and pour into a flat lined tray.
3. Place in the oven on 180 (160 for a fan oven) degrees for 25 min's

Paige had great fun mixing the ingredients. She enjoyed adding the black treacle as she said she felt like a witch making a potion. I would recommend giving it a go it you have little ones as it would make a great Halloween treat for toddlers.

We plan to also try these great candy apples out. I love the American type of candy apples so I think we could make some over the October half term holidays for fun using candy melts and black treacle.

Disclaimer: I would sent a pot of the fantastic Halloween Treacle to have fun cooking with. My views on all products I review are always mine or the children's and I promise to stay non biased when placing these views on Playful Learners.
