Product Review: Plan Toys Fun Sorting

We were recently sent a new product from Plan Toys to review. We had reviewed a previous product of theirs, the 60 piece construction set and was impressed by the quality and being a wooden toy I was happy to test out another.

The main aim of the Fun Sorting game is to sort and turn the four coloured rings to get them down the center rod. The toy can also be used to develop colour and shape recognition using the different colour rings and balls. As you child gains confidence using the toy it can adjusted by twisting the rod to make the game more challenging. The toy is suitable for children aged 3 and above and is made from natural rubber wood which is preservative free.

Within seconds of the toy arriving on our door step I had four children surrounding me wanting to have a play. It was interesting to see how each tackled the toy and solved the problem.

  • O who is 18 months struggled with the toy but after a while of twisting and turning the rings reached the bottom. Considering the toy is not designed for her age I think that it was not too challenging for her and the sorting game would work well in the heuristic play basket.
  • Little man is 3 and found the toy a little too easy but once twisted it made the toy more challenging and helped to keep his interest in solving the puzzle a few times. Little man is almost four so I would expect him to need the toy a bit more challenging.
  • P is 8 and of course this toy is too young for her but she still enjoyed  using it and came back to play with it several times through out the day.
  • Tinnie is just 7 months and too young with this toy so of course he was well supervised while exploring. He discovered that the ring make excellent teething rings and enjoyed trying to fit them on the top of the rod.
Overall I can see as a mum and childminder that this toy will get a lot of use and is priced reasonably. I have found through a lot of play that the two sections of the rod can come apart so it is best to keep an eye that you do not loose the top. Once I have found the missing piece of ours I plan to add a video for you all to see the toy in action!!

The Fun Sorting toy is available on Amazon for £13.99
