Washable Garden Paints

Painting and other creative play does not need to be saved for indoors turn your outdoor space into a canvas using garden paints and a variety of paint brushes. Great for filling some time before tea this activity will help develop gross motor skills and expand children's imagination.

Resources:
Corn flour
Food colour's
Paint brushes
Paint pots
Water

This is an easy activity to set up and in fact you can also prepare this in advance. I made up these up  morning and we didn't use them until after lunch so I simply gave them a little stir and they were ready to go. The paints are made by simply mixing cornflour and water with a ratio of 1:1 and simply add as much food colouring as you like until you reach your desired colour. I usually do them in paint pots as we get through so much however they were being used indoors on this day so I used a deep muffin tin instead.

The activity is great for children of all ages as the recipe is edible. Tinnie loves to stick his hands in eat some then smear his hand on the floor where as P's art extends from floor to walls like a giant graffiti painting.

You can watch a video of our play below where I have added how the development matters frame work can be met through using garden paints.

  1. This looks like a great idea :D

I used to be a childminder myself but there wasn't much call for it in our area (unemployment sucks lol) so I had to give in :'(
